Ever contemplate the difference between a “hand out” and a “hand up”? A hand out may appear to be the answer to our dilemma, but it only meets an immediate need and usually insufficiently so. A “hand up” elevates us from a depressing or hopeless situation and sets us on solid ground with a perspective and fresh horizons. Salvation is in and by Jesus lifts us from our fallen sinful condition and forever makes us stand on the solid rock of God’s eternal promise. From such a lofty vantage point we can see where we were and where we are going. In Jesus, a glorious eternity lies before us.
I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.
Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Psalms 40:1-4 (KJV)
